We are in a very unique position for university netball to have a full coaching team at Saints Netball who understand the balance between academic and athletic achievement.
The netball programme is overseen and managed by Director of Netball Sally Sandison, who also coordinates and coaches the performance squad. Sally is an alumnus of the University and during her time as a student represented the Scottish Universities Netball Team, competing against the Irish National team, and in the Home Nations competition. Since leaving University Sally has developed her coaching in the Shetland district pathways.
The performance squad Strength and Conditioning programme is coordinated and led by Allan Gartshore. Allan has worked for Saints Sport for several years and has been an Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association since 2008. He is instrumental to the performance squad programme and understands what it means for our netballers to compete at a high level.
Ross Whittaker is a full-time Personal Trainer at Saints Sport and a key part of the Health and Fitness Team at the University. Ross has over ten years’ experience in the fitness industry between his military and civilian career and leads spin classes for the club and is always on hand to assist with extra fitness sessions as required.
The 3s, 4s, 5s squads and development programme are coached by current performance squad members. We actively encourage students to get involved in coaching and umpiring which supports the running of the club and enables more volunteers to be deployed into local schools to help our community engagement programme.
Through the workforce development programme, Saints Netball invests in players by providing access to discounted coaching and umpiring courses and opportunities to develop skills in different coaching environments, whilst also ensuring all our teams have access to qualified coaches.
