St Andrews offers students a world-leading academic education alongside a professionally run player-centred performance netball programme.
Led by full time Director of Netball Sally Sandison, we aim to deliver the very best support and a comprehensive programme of training and competition to enable our top players to harness their full potential and achieve sporting and academic excellence whilst studying at St Andrews.
Through the key principles of hard work, commitment and constant self-improvement, we seek to build resilience within the programme, whilst providing an environment to help our players excel and develop as ambassadors for the sport of netball.
Athletes on the performance netball squad get access to a full support package including:
skill development and team preparation
weekly sport specific sessions
physiotherapy, sports psychology, nutrition, recovery, time management
team and individual analysis
1-2-1 sport specific sessions with Head Coach
regular sessions to monitor progress
full time in-house support service
full pre-season and off-season training programmes
The performance squad currently competes in BUCS Scottish Tier 1 and the BUCS National Trophy.
Scholarships are aimed at players who are already competing at a high level and who believe they have the necessary attributes to be part of a performance netball programme whilst studying for their degree in St Andrews.
Sally joined the University from Shetland where she was coaching the U15 District Squad. She graduated in BA (hons) International Relations from the University of St Andrews, where she played with the Women’s 1st Team. Having studied at the University for 4 years, this was huge influence in attracting Sally back to St Andrews.
Whilst at the University Sally was able to achieve her Level 1 and Level 2 teaching qualifications through the netball club. In the Summer of 2018 she went to South Africa with Saints Sport’s International Volunteering programme Saints Volunteer, Stellenbosch. This experience allowed Sally to improve her netball coaching as well as develop different coaching styles which she has used since returning to Shetland.

Our performance teams and athletes are supported by a team of highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated professional service staff who share a passion for student sport.
Located all on one site close to the historic town centre, students at St Andrews have access to some of the best sports facilities in Scotland.
The Sports Arena houses two netball courts, which are utilised for both training and matches. Featuring fully embedded video analysis technology and movable bleacher seating the facility allows for a crowd of 400 spectators at showcase fixtures.
